Fire interest continues + poll resultJan 20th, 2010 | By Philippa Stevenson | Category: Expert advice - fire, On Fire
Worldwide interest continues in the tragic Icepak Coolstores explosion and fire at Tamahere in April 2008, and its aftermath.
In this blog, Australian work health and safety consultant, Kevin Jones, discusses the prosecution of Icepak Coolstores, Mobile Refrigeration Specialists and Icepak director Wayne Grattan.
He concludes that the “prosecutions in relation to this explosion should have far-reaching effects throughout the coolstore industry in New Zealand, the fire safety services, given that one firefighter died and seven others injured, the OHS regulator which should always review their own procedures, actions and communications strategies after each major incident and the New Zealand business community generally.”
Meanwhile, the Tamahere Forum opinion poll sparked by controversy over New Year honours awarded to Fire Service leaders is now closed. Thanks to all those who voted.
One voter commented that “all should have some form of recognition”.
