TCC backs road protest group
Jun 3rd, 2012 | By Tamahere Forum | Category: Hot Topics, Latest NewsThe Tamahere Community Committee has moved to back the community action group calling for the proposed Southern Links road network to be ditched.
At its latest meeting the committee gave resounding support to a motion to support the work of Southern Links Acton Group and join its opposition to the road project’s east/west link through Tamahere “in its entirety”.
The action group’s campaign has labelled the Southern Links project “a waste of public funds” and said it is unnecessary and unlikely to be built, yet will place a designation over the Tamahere community for decades.
TCC told action group members attending its meeting that it would offer support to the group’s campaign where it could.
Cherry Lane ramps
Community opposition to the loss of south-bound access ramps from Cherry Lane on to the new Waikato Expressway may have prompted a re-think on the road’s design.
Waikato District Council General Manager Roading and Projects Ian Gooden told TCC that there could be
significant changes to the current plan as a result of feedback given to the NZ Transport Agency at its recent open days combined with discussions being held between NZTA and a number of parties.
New designs were likely to be brought back to the committee for its feedback in the future, he said.
