I think this is great! I would encourage you to be at the open day on the 29th July to ensure it is included in the Structure Reveiw.
I'm sure locals would be encouraged to know someone was making efforts to preserve this site.

Firstly, in response to Arnold's query, this particular Pa site is located as previously explained at the TITOKI ESTATES site off Titoki Drive. We have indeed preserved two Pa sites however, this one whilst not carrying the same level of historical significance as the Maniapoto Pa, is possibly more noteworthy because of its state of preservation within a covenanted bush area allowing a close resemblance to its former glory.

With respect to your response Ro, the Directors of Titoki would like assistance from TCC to establish an interest group for the future preservation of the Pa site. Currently all that preservation work including mowing and spraying the reserve remains our responsibility despite having already donated the site the to WDC. I just want to get the ball rolling on this one. I note that the TCC plan outlines preservation of historical sites as a desired outcome so I assume that there is interest from your committee.

It’s great to hear you are looking at starting a local area group to assist with preservation and to lobby for the further development and enhancement of the historical site of the Mangaharakeke Pa. Once your group is formed and you have established your objectives, please come along to one of our monthly meetings so we can understand exactly what you wish to achieve and determine how we can help work with your group and WDC to meet those objectives. Please contact one of our committee members to arrange, all of whom are listed above.

In the recently released TCC plan a request was made to identify the the Pa site now preserved at Titoki Estates. The name of the Pa site is the Mangaharakeke Pa which is the same name as the adjacent stream. We have also developed a bus parking bay on Titoki Drive to enable local school buses to park there so that the children can view what is a beautifully preserved example of a pre-European season fortified pa site. This site was formerly occuppied by folk from the Ngati Haua tribe and the Directors of Titoki Estates would like to establish a local interest group (ie; Friends of the Pa Society) to assist with preservation and to lobby DoC & WDC to enable the creation of walkway access. Maybe this is something that TCC could get behind given that Titoki started the "ball rolling" by donating this unique site in the first instance.
