Firefighter Merv Neil fights on
Injured Hamilton firefighter Merv Neil has made another significant step in his recovery and has been transferred to Waikato Hospital, reports the Waikato Times today.
“Mr Neil, 43, who was critically injured in the Icepak Coolstores blaze at Tamahere on April 5, was transferred from the National Burns Centre at Middlemore Hospital last week.
Mr Neil, who suffered burns to 70 per cent of his body, was one of seven seriously injured in the fatal fire. Their colleague and friend Hamilton senior station officer Derek Lovell died shortly after the fire.
A Neil family spokesman said the family was pleased with his progress, but was well aware he still had a long way to go.”
