Tauranga-based refrigeration company Mobile Refrigeration Specialists has admitted two charges of breaching health and safety regulations over the Tamahere coolstore fire.

At a callover hearing at Hamilton District Court yesterday, Judge Robert Spear announced the Labour Department would not pursue a case against employee Warren Cook, reported the Waikato Times.

Sentencing for Mobile Refrigeration Specialists and Icepak Coolstores Ltd will be held after the defended hearing is held for Icepak Coolstores’ three directors.

The directors Wayne Grattan, Iain Slight and Jan Van Eden have denied charges over last year’s fatal explosion which killed firefighter Derek Lovell and injured seven others.

Judge Spear said nothing would be achieved by having the sentencing before the defended hearing.
