Boutique Tamahere winery, Hilltop Wines, is hosting its first concert this Saturday, March 27, at its Pencarrow Rd vineyard overlooking the Waikato River and surrounding countryside.
The inaugural concert by Hilltop owner Phil Abel has a “Best of British” theme with UK hits originally performed by the Beatles, Rolling Stones, Dusty Springfield, The Kinks, Rod Stewart, Cliff Richard, David Bowie, Joe Cocker, and The Bee Gees being covered by talented, professional artists Midge Marsden, Shane, Celine Toner, Eve, Abbey Road, and Bullfrog Rata.
Hilltop is a small boutique winery with a capacity of 2000. Abel encourages concertgoers to amble through the vineyards tasting the grapes and become familiar with his award-winning products.
Gates open at 2.30pm and the concert will conclude after 9.30pm.
Concert goers are invited to bring their own food but a range of specialist food vendors including the likes of gourmet pizza, seafood, baked potatoes, fine cheese, paella and French-style crepes will also be available to tempt the taste buds in a way that matches fine wine and good times. It is a hot dog- and chip-free zone. Wine and beer will be sold on site (no BYO permitted).
The concert site slopes gently to the stage, suitable for picnic blankets and ground-hugging or “sand” chairs. In the interests of uninterrupted views gazebos will be confined to the outer perimeter as space allows. Sand chairs will also be available at $12.00 each. Higher chairs will have a designated area in order to not block fellow patrons’ views.
Tickets on sale now at Ticketek. Every ticket purchased receives a free souvenir wine glass.
