If you’ve ever thought the Waikato district – or your bit of it – could do with a tidy up here’s your chance to get stuck in.
Keep New Zealand Beautiful Clean Up Week is August 20 to 27 – a well timed spruce up before the visitors arrive for the Rugby World Cup in September.
The Waikato District Council is providing litter and recycling bags and gloves to participants in Clean Up Week. To be part of the action groups, schools and individuals need to complete a registration form (below) and nominate a ‘clean up area’.
Bags and recycling will be able to be put out on the usual collection day.
Waikato District Council chief executive Gavin Ion said last year more than 2000 volunteers helped paint over tagging and remove rubbish from local parks, reserves, and roadways.
It was a great opportunity for people to really show their pride in their community, he said.
“Clean up Week is a great incentive for everyone to roll up their sleeves and give the Waikato district a spruce up.”
Registration forms are also available from council offices or from Waikato District libraries. The closing date for registrations is Friday August 12.
