The Tamahere Community Centre needs community support.
The five-year-old hall in Devine Rd, a vital and much used community asset, is run by a volunteer committee but several long-serving members are about to retire.
A call has gone out for community-minded residents of Tamahere to step up and do their bit.
“The Tamahere Community Centre is a fantastic community asset, and now has several long term renters providing a wide range of activities to our community,” says committee chairwoman Colette Hanrahan.
“However, the current committee is asking for help. Our AGM is due to be held on October 4, and several committee members will be retiring to move on to other things. Without new members the committee will be too small to continue efficiently.”
Colette asks for people to support the facility and encourage their friends and neighbours to do the same.
Tamahere School is the main user of the centre but other renters are needed to keep it running successfully. The committee’s main responsibilities are keeping up the maintenance, cleaning, security and liaison with the booking officer at the school.
“The committee has set up great contacts, and good systems to keep things running smoothly, and all the hard ground work has been achieved,” she says.
“The committee is not expected to put in many hours to get these tasks done, it is just the overall management of these issues that needs to be taken care of.”
Please contact Colette Hanrahan on 858 4169, if you wish to find out more information.
The hall committee’s annual meeting will be at 7pm on Tuesday, October 4 at the centre.
