Slower trips for Howell Ave users

Tamahere people using Howell Ave in Hillcrest as part of their route into Hamilton will find it a slower trip from next month.

The Hamilton City Council is introducing a 40km/hour speed limit in eight areas of the city, including Howell Ave, as part of a safer suburban streets campaign.

Almost every school in the city is now covered by a 40 km/hour speed zone and the council is extending the zone on a trial basis to other areas where there are a high number of vulnerable road users.

The lower speed limit on Howell Ave, which will be signposted, will begin on October 17.

The other roads, which will also all be signposted, are Barrington (in Huntington), McNicol (in Fairfield), Ngaere (in Chartwell), Willoughby (in Whitiora), Lethborg (in Dinsdale), Heath (in St Andrews), and Tamihana (in Fairfield).
