New market underway this weekend

The first Gordonton Country Market will be held on Saturday (September 8).

Inspired by the success of Tamahere’s long-running market, Gordonton locals have been working to establish their own market for many months.

More than 70 stalls are expected at Saturday’s inaugural market offering a range of crafts and edible treats, including smoked fish, seedlings, herbs, flax flowers, carved stones, handmade children’s clothes, concrete bird baths and kiwiana art.

The market will start at 8.30am and is located on the Hukanui Park Grounds, next to the Gordonton Hall on Gordonton Road, about 8 minutes north of Rototuna on the outskirts of Hamilton.

Gordonton markets will be held on the 2nd Saturday of every month. Tamahere’s market is on the third Saturday of each month in the St Stephen’s church grounds, corner of Airport Rd and Tamahere Drive.

The organiser of Tamahere’s market, Jane Manson, has been an advisor to the Gordonton market’s establishment group.
