Six months’ worth of road works on Tauwhare Rd to form the entrance to the Titoki Sands quarry has finally come to an end, allowing sand to start flowing from the site.
The work that finished on Friday, May 17, included improvements to the site access and the road to facilitate vehicle movements to and from the quarry site.
As a result, sand began to be taken from the quarry on Monday, May 20, said Waikato Aggregates Ltd, the company operating the Titoki quarry.
The footpath on the northern side of the road has also been finished, providing a footpath from Woodcock Road to the State Highway 1 interchange.
An ongoing issue is a slip above the footpath near the Woodcock Rd end.
A company spokeswoman said the Waikato District Council had engaged geotechnical engineers to review the bank’s stability and make recommendations for remediation.
Waikato Aggregates thanked the Tamahere and wider community for their patience over the months the road works were underway.
