Tamahere’s part in a district-wide celebration of Matariki will be played out at Saturday’s Tamahere Market.
Matariki, or the Maori New Year, is being celebrated with a range of activities throughout the Waikato and will be especially warming at the June 15 market where a serving of hangi food will mark the occasion.
Update, Friday, June 14: The hangi kai will not be at this month’s market, the Waikato District Council advises. A family bereavement has forced the providers to postpone the kai stand.
Also adding to the new faces at the market will be a new stall offering cupcakes and another with chocolate.
Not surprisingly, the Waikato foodie magazine, Nourish, will also be at the market to promote its latest edition.
It is, of course, also the National Agricultural Fieldays this week so the market presents an opportunity to give visitors to the Waikato a chance to see the best the Waikato can offer.
