World Wetlands Day marked

The Tamahere Plant Nursery will mark World Wetlands Day with a focus on wetland plant species at its regular monthly working bee on Sunday, February 2.

There is a plentiful supply of seedlings of wetland species such as carex, gahnia, cabbage tree, kahikatea and flax to be potted on from 1.30pm at the nursery, next to the Tamahere Community Centre.

The following month’s gathering, on March 2, will involve a visit to a private wetland that is soon be impacted by the new Waikato Expressway between Huntly and Taupiri, says organiser Jan Simmons.

“This will be one-off chance to see this wetland and to collect seed of wetland species so they can be grown to rejuvenate other wetland areas,” she said.

Further information about this field trip will be provided closer to the time.
