The Tamahere Lions Club was officially launched today with numbers already swelling.
Lions District Governor Richard Norris inducted 15 people at a gathering at Punnet Cafe to form the core of the local branch, up from the 10 who kicked the idea off.
Following the induction Norris installed the new club officers, President Russell Gibbs, and a daughter and dad team of Secretary Haley McMahon and Treasurer Gary McMahon.
Gibbs acknowledged the support of the Cambridge Lions Club, which he said had been a huge driving influence in the establishment of the Tamahere club.
The club hopes to draw membership from a wide community, including Matangi, Tauwhare, Kaipaki and Rukuhia as well as Tamahere.
“A membership from across this wider community will give more depth and allow the club to have an impact on a larger section of people,” Gibbs said.
