Wiremu Tamihana Drive, the new road being constructed between Airport and Devine Roads, is progressing well despite wet weather.
From later this month until late August, contractors Fulton Hogan will be widening Airport Rd at the intersection with Wiremu Tamihana Drive to allow for slip lanes, reported the Waikato District Council in its latest update.
When the road is completed in December it will bring about a number of changes, including the closure of the right hand turn from Devine Rd down the SH 1 on-ramp.
It will also bring the closure of the Airport Rd-Newell Rd intersection with the part of Newell Rd south of Devine Rd becoming a cul de sac, and the Newell Rd-Devine Rd intersection becoming a sweeping bend.
A number of essential services will be relocated during the project including telephone cables, power poles and transformers, and council water mains.
Before that occurs trees will be removed on Airport Rd and at the intersection of Newell and Devine Roads. The trees will be mulched and used for erosion and sediment control on exposed surfaces or for landscaping.
Queries or feedback about the road can be made by phoning the council on 0800 492 452 or email firstname.lastname@example.org
