The Tamahere Lions Club is growing rapidly with five new members signing up at its first full meeting this week.
That brings club membership to 20, enabling it to start deciding what projects it will work on in the community, says club president Russell Gibbs.
“The response from the community has been amazing,” he said. “This is better than we all expected and is very pleasing.”
He said there was a great deal of interest in the club and its proposed activities for the coming months.
The club will meet monthly on the third Thursday of each month at Punnet Café.
“Anyone who has an interest is welcome to attend our monthly meeting,” Gibbs said. “In these early days meetings will tend to be more social to ensure we all get to know each other.”
Shortly the club will form sub committees and start choosing small but meaningful community projects to support.
