Group goes gully tripping

A field trip to two restored gullies is planned for the Tamahere Community Nursery group on Sunday, November 2.

The Devine Rd nursery will be closed for the trip, firstly to Mangaiti Gully to see the amazing restoration of a council reserve achieved by a dedicated community group.

The second gully is privately owned and has been transformed by one man into a landscaped park complete with boardwalks and bridges.

Those wanting to go on the trip will meet at 1pm on Sunday (note the earlier starting time) at the walk bridge access from Grenache Place, off Coleraine Drive, Rototuna.

The second gully is at Chartwell, five minutes drive from the first. Wear good walking shoes and bring a thermos and cup for afternoon tea, advises nursery and gully care organiser Jan Simmons.

If wet, the field trip will be postponed until December and a potting session held at the nursery instead.
