Lions to use resource locally

The annual inorganic rubbish collections gets underway from Sunday, November 16 and the Tamahere Lions would like the opportunity to put useable materials to local use.

The club is offering to collect scrap metal to raise funds for a range of local projects rather than see the resource leave the district.

A volunteer team can be contacted to collect the recyclable metal from inside donors’ properties before it goes to the roadside.

Contact Arnold on 0274 936 518 or Gary on 0274 865 757 to arrange collection.

The club is also running a raffle at the upcoming Tamahere Market, Saturday, November 15, with a prize of firewood. The raffle will be drawn, and the firewood can be delivered, on the day.

The recently formed club aims to put the funds raised to local projects, including two seats at the new Allan Turner bridge.

Longer term, the club is considering building a skate park to replace the informal one that local skateboarders have set up on Koppens Rd on the former Icepak site, which at times attracts up to 30 skaters.
