Recreation grounds underway

The long anticipated sport and recreation grounds in central Tamahere are set to emerge from former house sites and paddocks this year.

The site stretches from Wiremu Tamihana Drive to Devine Rd and is bounded by the Tamahere School grounds and community centre on one side and Regal Haulage and a private house on the other.

One house was moved off late last year and work has now begun to remove the remaining dwellings.

The reserve has been designed in consultation with the Tamahere Community Committee and will eventually incorporate sports fields, a carpark, playgrounds, a skate park, walkway and fitness trail.

Waikato District Council General Manager Service Delivery Tim Harty said the development of the recreation reserve will be staged.

Initially the site will be cleared and levelled to produce a grassed surface in preparation for the construction of the other features in later years, he said.

The site has been fenced and for safety reasons is out of bounds.

Hi Phillipa. Last week, between Monday & Friday, our apple trees, persimmon & grapefruit trees were completely stripped of all their fruit. My next door neighbour also had the same thing happen. We have both been left with only plums. They obviously didn’t like plums. We are both on back sections in Newell Road, The trees cannot be seen from the road and we can easily see into each others section as well as a third neighbour (no fruit trees planted yet). We all look out for each other. I have talked to the Cambridge Police who think this has got to be an inside job. Somebody working on one of the three properties. Have you had any other reports of fruit theft in the area between the Montessori School and Davidson Lane?
    Kind regards, Jo Wells

Sorry to hear about that Jo. I haven’t had any other reports of fruit being taken.
