Thieves target Tamahere

Share

Thieves have targeted at least two Tamahere properties in the last week.

The Providore, next to Punnet Cafe, was burgled in the early hours of last Tuesday with robbers making off with a safe containing the long Waitangi weekend takings.

The store has alarms and video surveillance cameras which were thwarted in the burglary.

The McMahon family, owners of the popular Strawberry Farm complex, home to The Providore and Punnet Cafe, were understandably very distressed by the robbery.

Surveillance footage has been checked to see if any evidence of the robbers had been recorded, and an investigation launched into how the sophisticated alarm system had been bypassed.

A Forum reader also reported that an Airport Rd property was targeted earlier today in a burglary that netted a hedge trimmer and other items from a garage.

The reader said that it appeared the robbers had been casing the property and knew the time to strike.

If you see any suspicious behaviour in the neighbourhood please report it to Hamilton Police, (07) 858 6200.

Today (12/9/16), a young lady in pale blue jeans and white shirt, close-cropped hair and a couple of face piercings knocked on our door in Devine Road. I have never seen her before. She said her friends place across the road was burgled during daytime and asked if I heard anything. Will talk to the neighbours tomorrow to confirm.

I couldn’t sleep last night (2am 17-2-16) and went out to my workroom off our garage and close (8-9m) and parallel to Rosebanks Dr. Sometime between 2:15 -2:30am I heard a car drive past (normal speed). A few minutes later I heard a car go past from the opposite direction. Rosebanks is a non through road and I thought it very strange to hear a car at that time of night on a school/work night. There may be a perfectly good reason for it, but after reading your article, I wonder.

Am sure we had someone around our property around 3am Monday morn (15th) . Our dogs were continually barking for a half hour or so. But because we got up and scanned the area with a spotlight, we may have made them think twice. We are in Middle Road.
