The call is out for young, Tamahere community leaders or would-be leaders to come out of the shadows.
Tamahere young people were nowhere to be seen among the 52 nominations in last year’s inaugural Waikato District youth awards.
This year, the call is out early for young people aged from 15 to 24 to join a Tamahere Youth Action Group whose aim will be to create or take on local projects.
Council youth engagement advisor Shannon Kelly is inviting Tamahere youngsters to contact her if they are interested in being active in community projects, are keen to hone their leadership skills or be a voice for youth locally.
Last May, when nominations flowed into the awards from all over the district except Tamahere Kelly had faith that there were Tamahere young people with talent. They were just not coming forward.
“I think there are some fantastic young people doing amazing work in Tamahere and I would have really loved to showcase that talent at the awards this year,” she told Tamahere Forum.
This year, Tamahere people again have a chance to prove her right.
