SH1 speed up or not?

The NZ Transport Agency is calling for feedback on a proposal to introduce a 110km/h speed limit on the Cambridge section of the Waikato Expressway.

The Cambridge Expressway

The SH1 expressway between the Cambridge Southern and Tamahere interchanges along with the SH2 Tauranga Eastern Link Rd are the first roads being considered for the 110km/h speed limit.

Nationwide, the speed limit will only rise to 110km/hr on roads which can support higher travel speeds without compromising safety.

The first two roads proposed are built to a standard where the higher speed limit is considered both safe and appropriate, NZTA said.

Feedback from stakeholders, road users and the community will be considered when making the decision regarding implementing the 110km/h speed limit.

Submissions can be made via NZTA’s website, by email or through the post. Submissions close on Wednesday, October 26.

The postal address is: (Freepost Authority 110 Consultation) NZTA, POBox 973, Waikato Mail Centre, Hamilton 3240.

If implemented, the new speed limit will be in operation before the end of 2017.
