Armistice Day, November 11, will be a particularly historic day in Matangi this year.
For more than a hundred years, locals have called for a Roll of Honour for those from the Matangi district who served in the armed forces during World War 1. One hundred and four years later, that day has finally arrived.
At 11am on Sunday November 11, the Roll of Honour will be placed in the Matangi Hall, 480 Tauwhare Rd.
It has finally been made possible thanks to the dedication and perseverance of locals and funds from the Waikato District Council Heritage Fund.
A community dedication and light lunch is planned to mark the occasion.
Locals or others with relatives on the roll who attend on the day will be acknowledged. People attending are asked to arrive by 10.55am, and take a plate of finger food to share. There will be a minute’s silence at 11am.
Contact Ian Wallace 829 5848 to let him know who will be attending the dedication.
