Tour to explore local history

St Stephen’s Church is hosting a second hikoi – a journey through some of the region’s history led by “tour guide” extraordinaire, Archbishop Sir David Moxon.

Entitled Trust, Tragedy and Hope, yesterday, today and tomorrow, the bus tour will visit the the site of the first mission station in Waipa district, take in the two oldest churches built by Maori in 1854, and reflect on the New Zealand wars tragedy at Rangiaowhia.

The well attended first hikoi was held last August and traced the life and special places of Tamahere’s most notable historic figure, Wiremu Tamihana.

The latest tour is on Sunday, April 11, leaving St Stephen’s Church, Tamahere Dr, at 11.15am and returning by 4.30pm.
