A young Tamahere local won an age-group section in this year’s Waikato libraries Matariki competition.
Isaac Shingler won for his bookmark design in the 5-9 years group, winning a $100 gift voucher.
This year, the competition to celebrate Matariki (Maaori New Year), attracted 348 entries from across the district in both the poetry and bookmark design categories.
The other winners in the bookmark category were Annie Nguyen from Huntly (10-15 years) and Barbara Derecourt from Ngaruawahia (16+ years).
The winners of the poetry category were Jasmine Nicholas-Singh from Te Kauwhata (5-9 years), Tokomauri White from Te Uku (10-15 years) and Venus Fernandez from Raglan (16+ years).
Annie Nguyen from Huntly was named the Supreme Winner – as chosen by Deputy Mayor Aksel Bech.
