Clean up crew nabs litter

Tamahere School’s eco warriors have continued to wage war on litter around the school block.

Just before they headed off on holiday and in recognition of Clean Up New Zealand week a clean up crew took to the streets for an end of term tidy up.

They filled three quarters of a large wheelie bin with recyclable objects and the same again with waste.

Tamahere School’s eco warriors have been waging war against rubbish around the school block.

Recently, the dynamic group set off along Wiremu Tamihana Drive with their wheelie bins to carry out the term’s block clean up. Their efforts were well rewarded.

They filled a large bin with recyclable items such as glass and plastic bottles.



School shines silver

Tamahere School today gained an Enviroschools silver award for its sustainability practices.

The step up from the previously held bronze status came after an audit of the school’s programmes from waste management to vegetable growing.

The award was bestowed on the school in a ceremony attended by Waikato District Mayor Allan Sanson.
