Pumpkin night packs punch

Tamahere School’s popular annual fundraising event – Pumpkin Night – is on this Saturday and promising all the fun and keen competition of previous years.

Who will get the heaviest pumpkin? What talented performers will be revealed?

It’s all on in the school grounds from 3-7pm – stalls, auctions, rides, entertainment and just loads of family fun.

Pumpkin night a winner

Locals and visitors flocked to Tamahere School’s annual Pumpkin Gala in what looked to be record numbers on Saturday.

The much coveted prize for the heaviest pumpkin went to first time pumpkin grower Penny Elenor with a beast of a pumpkin that topped the scales at an impressive 170kg.

Penny, 10 and in year six at Tamahere School, gambled all her pumpkin growing prowess on a single seed.

Pumpkins, concert and fly-bys

Tamahere people keen to be entertained are spoilt for choice this Saturday.

The annual Pumpkin Night is on from 4pm to 8pm at Tamahere School and music lovers can enjoy a talented line up at Hilltop Wines’ Sunset concert from 3pm to 9.30pm or just fit in the last couple of hours after the Pumpkin Night.

Meanwhile, earlier in the day CTC Aviation is holding an open day for wannabe pilots to check out its pilot training programmes.

Pumpkin Night for family fun

Tamahere Schools annual pumpkin night gala is on Saturday, April 9.

The popular family event begins at 4pm with the weighing in of the giant pumpkins the school children have been growing since last year.

The night is a food and fun extravaganza open to all with meals from pumpkin soup to hangi kai and entertainment from pony rides and bouncy castles to singers and clowns.
