A hearing into the Waikato District Council’s annual Speed Limit Bylaw review will reconvene this month after the initial hearing was adjourned.

The council received 23 submissions relating to 16 proposed speed limit amendments across the district, however the hearing was adjourned while further information regarding the submissions process was considered.

Tamahere people were particularly active, making submissions on several speed limits, including the long sought reduction to 80km/h for a section of Tauwhare Rd from SH 1 to just east of Woodcock Rd.

Speed review on hold

A hearing into Waikato District Council’s annual Speed Limit Bylaw review has been adjourned until further notice.

At this month’s Policy and Regulatory committee meeting, councillors had 23 submissions to consider relating to 16 proposed speed limit amendments across the district.

Tamahere people were particularly active, making submissions on several speed limits, including the long sought reduction to 80km/h for a section of Tauwhare Rd from SH 1 to just east of Woodcock Rd.

Speed rebuff earns ire

An extremely concerned Tamahere Community Committee is urging residents to make submissions on a review of local road speed limits.

At its March meeting, the committee learned that its request to the Waikato District Council for the speed limit to be reduced to 80km/h for a section of Tauwhare Rd from SH 1 to just east of Woodcock Rd had been turned down.

Cr Wally Hayes said community concern about the 100km/hr speed limit on the stretch of road went back a decade.
