New market underway this weekend

The first Gordonton Country Market will be held on Saturday (September 8).

Inspired by the success of Tamahere’s long-running market, Gordonton locals have been working to establish their own market for many months.

More than 70 stalls are expected at Saturday’s inaugural market offering a range of crafts and edible treats, including smoked fish, seedlings, herbs, flax flowers, carved stones, handmade children’s clothes, concrete bird baths and kiwiana art.

Market-goers will need to wrap up warm for this Saturday’s Tamahere Market but the weather is forecast to be the best it has all week.

And the rewards will be considerable at the 81st market in seven years – scrumptious pastries washed down with hot coffee and the usual enticing range of take-home treats including gourmet bread, cheese, fish, fresh fruit and vegetables.

Providing a promising touch of the upcoming spring there will also be daffodils to brighten the day and our homes.
