Hit & run evidence wanted

The family of a young Tamahere man, seriously injured in a recent hit and run incident, are appealing for help in solving the crime.

On Tuesday, March 24, pedestrian Dion McFetridge , 21, was hit on Tamahere Drive by a speeding car and was left lying badly injured in the centre of the road.

There are several witnesses to the incident and a description of the vehicle but not its licence plate number.

Tamahere Drive re-opens

Tamahere Drive will re-open from tomorrow under stop/go traffic management, providing local traffic with direct access from Pickering Road to SH1 via the Tamahere Interchange.

Following the re-opening of Tamahere Drive the section of road between Pickering and Pencarrow roads will be closed for reconstruction.

It’s thought Pickering to Pencarrow Road will be closed for about five weeks, advise the NZ Transport Agency and HEB Construction.

SH1-Tamahere Dr access closed

There will be no access to Tamahere Drive from State Highway 1 at its southern end from Monday, February 16 as work on the Waikato Expressway continues.

The only access to Tamahere Drive for about a month will be from its northern end at the Airport Rd intersection.

Locals get road access reprieve

As construction of the Waikato Expressway proceeds Pickering Rd and Oaklea Lane residents have been given a reprieve from forced, lengthy detours.

An access road has been completed around Ambreed which gives affected residents temporary access to SH1.

NZTA and HEB Construction provided the access after nearby residents sought an alternative to lengthy detours while the expressway bridge and Pickering Rd connection under the bridge was completed.

Speed rebuff earns ire

An extremely concerned Tamahere Community Committee is urging residents to make submissions on a review of local road speed limits.

At its March meeting, the committee learned that its request to the Waikato District Council for the speed limit to be reduced to 80km/h for a section of Tauwhare Rd from SH 1 to just east of Woodcock Rd had been turned down.

Cr Wally Hayes said community concern about the 100km/hr speed limit on the stretch of road went back a decade.
