Festival starts strawberry season

Tamahere’s Strawberry Farm has a lot to celebrate and is sharing the love.

As the new strawberry season gets underway the Newell Rd complex is marking the occasion with the launch of a re-vamped Punnet cafe and the opening of a new playground.

The Strawberry Farm Festival on the weekend of November 15-16 will include face painting and balloon artists, live music and lots of strawberry treats.

Family works berry well

Haley McMahon is just back in Hamilton after living in Australia for a while. For her first dinner home there was an abundance of strawberries: in a salad, with a chocolate and coffee bean dip, even a strawberry and blueberry tart.

“I hadn’t had strawberries for a long time, ” she says. “I was very excited.”

Haley was well placed to enjoy these summer treats. Her parents, Gary and Pam McMahon, own The Straw Berry Farm, on Newell Rd, Tamahere, and their summer season is in full swing.

Providore turns one year

Tamahere’s popular Country Providore store-cum-delicatessen is celebrating its first anniversary.

The Newell Rd store, alongside the drawcard Punnet Cafe, has become an essential stop off for locals whether they want a basic like milk or something surprising or gourmet for a meal.

This weekend Providore, the brainchild of Pam and Gary McMahon of the Strawberry Farm along with daughter Emma, marked its first birthday with a sale.

New Tamahere store proves popular

A corner store-cum-delicatessen, The Country Providore, has finished its first week of trading on Tamahere’s Newell Rd.

The store, which also stocks homeware and gifts alongside fresh fruit and vegetables, gourmet meats and cheese as well as a range of meal treats and essentials, is the brainchild of The Strawberry Farm’s Pam and Gary McMahon.

On the same site as The Strawberry Farm, the couple also brought Tamahere the popular Punnet Cafe whose next door neighbour is now the stylish Country Providore managed by daughter Emma McMahon.
