Expressway delays fibre rollout

A delay is likely in the roll out of the ultrafast broadband network in the Cherry Lane and Bollard Road areas.

The hold up comes because of work restrictions placed on contractors Ultra Fast Fibre from the Waikato Expressway construction in the same area.

“The latest we now expect to be able to connect anyone in this area is from 1st September,” said Mike Ryan of UFF.

Fast internet work to start

Ultra fast broadband is set to be delivered to Tamahere and Matangi with work scheduled to start next month.

Ultrafast Fibre, the company bringing fast broadband to the area under the government’s broadband scheme, said today work was scheduled to start in May.

Under the rollout scheme, the capital cost of installing the fibre road by road is underwritten by the government allowing individual customers to simply sign up with broadband service providers at no more cost than their urban counterparts.

Maps show fast internet area

Ultrafast Fibre, the company bringing fast broadband to Tamahere and Matangi, has released maps of the area it will serve with fibre.

Tamahere Councillor Aksel Bech said the release of the detail was exciting progress.

“We now know that the area within the yellow line on the map will get fibre under the government’s ultra fast broadband 2+ initiative and that it must be completed by the end of 2019,” Bech said.
