New date for centre start

Construction of Tamahere’s commercial hub looks set to start in mid September, a much delayed beginning for a centre that was at one time expected to be reality by now.

Resource consent has now been issued for the boutique shopping centre to be built by Fosters Develop on the corner of Devine Rd and Wiremu Tamihana Drive, the Tamahere Community Committee heard recently at its monthly meeting.

Getting firm commitments from prospective tenants had been slower than expected and as a result construction may be a staged process, the committee was told.

Cafe, bar, grocer for village

A cafe, restaurant/bar and grocer are businesses keen on being tenants of Tamahere’s commercial area.

Also interested in the Tamahere Village spot, on the corner of Devine Rd and Wiremu Tamihana Drive, are a wine cellar, skincare clinic, doctor, pharmacy, beauty spa and hairdresser.

Last June it was anticipated the complex would be reality by mid-this year but it is now scheduled to be up and running early in 2018.

Village tenants sought

The search is on for tenants for Tamahere’s new commercial village centre, which could be reality by mid-next year.

An advertisement appealing for interest in a “character commercial centre in sought after Tamahere” has been posted online.

The ad suggests tenants of the development on the corner of Devine Rd and Wiremu Tamihana Drive could provide “food, professional services, boutique retail, medical and health and fitness”.

Village centre deal signed

The long awaited Tamahere village centre took a big leap forward today when the Waikato District Council and developer Fosters signed an agreement.

The deal is for a “commercial hub” of boutique retail outlets to be located on the corner of Devine Road and Wiremu Tamihana Drive.

The hub stems from combined council and Tamahere community efforts over the past few years and the search for a developer began last June.
