Look out for voting papers

Local government voters will be able to cast their votes in the 2019 Waikato District and Waikato Regional Council elections from today.

Voting papers are in the mail and expected to be delivered by Wednesday, September 25.

People who have not received their papers by then should contact Waikato District Council Electoral Officer Dale Ofsoske on 0800 922 822 or visit one of the council offices.

Feedback wanted on rubbish, recycling

The Waikato District Council is seeking feedback on its draft Waste Management and Minimisation Plan (WMMP).

The plan intends to focus on the avoidance, reduction and minimisation of waste, and to make use of opportunities created from resource recovery.

Targets include increasing the diversion of per capita kerbside material by 10 per cent and reducing per capita kerbside rubbish to landfill by 5 per cent.

Water use prompts cuts

Restrictions on the use of garden sprinklers are now in place after significant increase in water consumption across the region triggered a water alert.

Waikato District, Hamilton City and Waipa District are now all on Water Alert Level 1, which means sprinklers should only be used between 6am to 8am and 6pm to 8pm each day.

A handheld hose can be used at any time.
